The Cake Crew is the UK's largest independent manufacturer of private label cupcakes, supplying a variety of bakery products into major supermarkets, independent retailers and wholesalers.

The award winning business is rapidly expanding due to customer demand and has a growing workforce in excess of 200 personnel, based in North Wales and Cheshire.

The Scenario

Previously, The Cake Crew's talent attraction strategy consisted of using a mix of channels including recruitment agencies, online advertising services, and the job centre along with free to advertise job boards for low level roles. Key challenges for The Cake Crew included:

  • High agency fees
  • Talent attraction, particularly in relation to the specialist and field based roles, in addition to the limited and saturated talent pool in the rural location of the bakery
  • Too much time being spent on recruitment administration

With all this in mind, The Cake Crew decided to bring all recruitment activity in-house to reduce costs and promote the employer brand to attract the best people. With 90% of job seekers searching for employment online, the digital world was an obvious choice for the new talent attraction strategy.

However, with over 1100 job sites in the UK to choose from in addition to a range of social media channels, The Cake Crew sought professional external support to assist with gaining the right level of online exposure, and to reduce the amount of administration that comes with writing adverts, promoting opportunities and managing applications.

The Cake Crew considered a variety of suppliers, which on the surface appeared to have similar offerings. However, it was apparent that the overall service offered by JVP provided a more flexible and comprehensive solution focused on achieving the best results and with efficient support, presenting great value for money.

Vacancies are promoted for 28 days on JVP's network of over 200 job sites including CV-Library, Jobsite, TotalJobs, Fish4Jobs, plus a wide range of specialist and regional sites.

Comprehensive Social Media Exposure

JVP's Marketing Team undertake a comprehensive social media campaign for all of The Cake Crew's vacancies. Eye-catching graphics and engaging social posts are presented to over 20,000 connections, promoted in specialist groups relevant to industry, discipline and location, and new connections are made specific to each vacancy, enabling the attraction of active and passive job seekers across social media.

Applicant Management Software

JVP's cloud based software enables The Cake Crew to quickly and easily shortlist and respond to applicants for all vacancies, whilst centralising all recruitment activity and creating a talent pool of applicants that users across the business have access to.

Multiple recruits from one campaign

Established for over 7 years, ICR Group provide a range of electrical services to commercial and industrial clients across the UK.

Due to planned company expansion, ICR group were looking to recruit additional highly skilled personnel. Having previously used methods such as the Job Centre and recruitment agencies, with unsatisfactory and costly results, ICR explored a new innovative method offered by JVP.

After a consultation meeting at the ICR offices, JVP were instructed to draft an advertisement for Electrician roles. With access to over 200 online job boards, JVP published the advertisement across their entire network onto all relevant sites including; leading, specialist and regional job boards, and in addition promoted on social media channels.

ICR were provided with access to the JVP online Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to directly manage their applications in a centralised location, and subsequently the vacancies were quickly filled.

Subsequently, an additional advertisement was placed to recruit within the admin team, which enabled ICR to appoint two candidates in a short space of time, and both from an investment of only £495 plus VAT, proving a cost-effective exercise.

JVP support Safety Media with recruitment advertising, leading to new starter within 5 working days

With over 20 years’ experience, Safety Media is an established and trusted brand in the health and safety training market, providing innovative and cost effective multimedia training solutions.

Safety Media has grown significantly over recent years with continued expansion plans. Due to the nature of the business and its culture, the speedy attraction of suitable candidates for vacancies is paramount to support the developments.

On this occasion, Safety Media were looking to recruit for a PHP Developer. Having explored attraction via various recruitment agencies for approximately 4 months without success, a fresh recruitment strategy was sought.

Safety Media approached JVP to advertise and promote their vacancy for a PHP Developer.

JVP met with Safety Media on Monday morning to discuss their requirement, and that afternoon an employer branded advertisement was drafted, emailed for approval and published within a few hours. With access to over 200 online job boards, JVP posted the vacancy advertisement across the entire network onto all relevant sites including; leading, specialist and regional sites, along with promotion on social media channels.

The following day, applications were received with the online Applicant Tracking System (ATS), which Safety Media were given access to. Within 24 hours shortlisting had been completed using the time saving flagging system, with interview invitations emailed via the Portal.

By Friday of the same week, a successful applicant was identified at interview and appointed to start the following Monday.

Not only were Safety Media able to appoint very quickly, they were able reduce their recruitment costs by upto 60%, should the candidate have been introduced by a recruitment agency.
