How to take advantage of the surge in job seekers during the Christmas and new year period

There’s been plenty of ups and downs for everyone in 2021, but it’s been a particularly challenging year for many of us in the world of recruitment. The Great Resignation, skills shortages, and the candidate-driven market has made the role of HR and talent attraction professionals incredibly tough.

But there is hope around the corner…

A new survey from leading job board CV-Library has found that an incredible 76.4% of UK professionals are planning to look for a new job in 2022.

And as we quickly approach the Christmas and new year period, all signs are pointing towards a rush of job seekers flooding back to the market as people begin to look ahead towards 2022.

Even with sluggish candidate activity towards the end of 2020, the trend of increased activity remained the same as they have done year after year. The amount of job seekers searching for a new career nearly doubles during the post-Christmas period, with people refreshed after their break and having plenty of time to search and apply for jobs.

How to make the most of the increased number of potential applicants?

Typically, many businesses put their recruitment plans on hold until the new year, and there will be minimal recruitment activity from employers during the Christmas shutdown period.

This means if you advertise your jobs during this period, they will be front and centre for potential applicants scouring the job boards for their next career opportunity – making it an ideal time for your job adverts to go live.
